The Gauls were a group of Celtic-speaking people who lived in the region of Gaul, modern-day France.
The Romanized Gauls gradually dropped their native Celtic language in favour of Latin. As the Gauls gradually integrated with the incoming Franks, a Germanic tribe, their language evolved into the modern Romantic language of French, and gradually the population assumed a French national identity.
Gaulish mythology is similarly a mix of early Celtic religion, with influence from the Romans, Germanic tribes and other Celtic peoples.
