Scottish myths and legends include a variety of myths that are common to Ireland and to other Celtic populations, and hence much of the larger Celtic mythology fits into Scottish mythology. This section deals with myths and legends that are unique or specific to Scotland.
The peoples of the Scottish highlands included the Scottish Gaels, who came from Ireland and the Picts who had established themselves in northern and eastern Scotland. Another group of Lowland Scots formed from a mix of Celtic and Germanic populations, forming a group that spoke Inglis, and later the Scots language, which is very similar to English.
