Themis was the ancient Greek goddess of justice, specifically divine justice. As a Titan, Themis is a daughter of Ouranos and Gaea.
Themis was the mother of Dike with Zeus. While Themis was the personnification of infinite, divine justice, Dike was the goddess of temporal, human justice. The Romans merged Themis and Dike into their goddess Justitia, who maintained the image of the sword and scales seen in some depictions of Themis.
Themis’ name in Greek, Θημις, means “law of nature”.
